Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

misaligned teeth & putting on weight

hi all

first of all I'm here to report on lunatic, who is doing fine :) we had a check up yesterday, she hasn't gained any (still 2.2kg) but she hasn't lost any, which is good. she still feels very boney of course, so I'm looking for ways to help gain a bit of weight back on. I posted elsewhere but I got an answer of "nothing as long as she has a good diet" which doesn't make any sense to me. with any thing be human or any if you lose weight, continuing as you are won't help you gain weight.

I know obviously I don't want her to gain too much fat, but we're down almost 400g which is quite a lot. she's nearing the weight of Orion and he is much smaller than her.

I've tried to make sense of the rabbit body conditioning as suggested but I can't. Luna bulges out at her ribs which indicates and makes her look overweight. but then you can easily feel her spine and ribs at her 2.6kg she doesn't bulge out anywhere. so I think the 2.5-2.6kg mark is correct for her. right now she'd be classed as thin by how she looks and how she feels, very sharp spine, ribs, and hips. I don't know if its just her skeleton as to why she bulges out.

anyway - is it just a case of doing nothing and she will get better or is it a case of perhaps giving her an extra tablespoon of pellet?

& onto my second question.. is there any way to manage the top teeth for a bunny who have them misaligned? Orion's don't align correctly from his quick look yesterday  our usual vet hasn't mentioned it, and we saw the nurse for a quick check up. she said they look perfectly fine right now and its just something to keep an eye on but it still fills me with dread.

I hate dentals and I don't want to have another dental bun, not after Snoopy

Just regular checks with vet on teeth, and checking bun is eating hay, forage etc to help wear teeth down

Hiya BC

Putting weight on a bun ..

I feed a pinch of dry porridge oats morning and evening.
I add in fibafirst sticks - as many as necessary to put on weight, building the number of them up slowly.
You can think about adding in alfalfa hay so long as there isn't a bladder/calcium issue.
I also give an extra helping of junior pellets to fatten.

Regards Orion .. Some vets will burr the front teeth down and they can straighten out in time.
My rabbits have always had very misaligned incisors and I've always had them taken out as the best solution.
It doesn't sound like you're at that point yet though?
