  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My lovely girls are home now. Rosie always tucks herself into corners close to Heather. Rosie has Baytril twice a day for a week.

Thanks tonibun. It's always a worry when they have anaesthetic. I have friends who have a bunny who has dentals without anaesthetic, every 2 weeks. He's 9 yrs old. Same vets as us.

Good to hear of good vets doing conscious dentals. You never know when there may be occasion to need it.

A member of the forum here sought my advice when her bunny needed dentals every two weeks and was not coping well with all the anaesthetics.

It's so important to get rabbit savvy vets. Us owners have much greater expectations nowadays and luckily vets are catching up. I am amazed at how things have changed and improved over the last 30 years. I have learned that there's always hope!!!

Hi tonibun, Rosie is much better. She's finished her antibiotics and is happier and has been bouncing around the garden with Heather this week. She had anaesthetic for her dental and Dr G took a urine sample which showed she had an infection. Hopefully it's all cleared up now. She's certainly back to eating everything. Amazing what a change there can be in a week with the right vet. How is your new Harley settling in?

Yes he's settling in very well. He came with a lovely hutch and Ive attached a puppy pen to it If you're over this way come and meet him. He's very beautiful. And he's so quiet at night. Pleased Rosie is back to normal.
