Thank you everyone for your kind words, it means such a lot.
So yesterday was obviously an extremely difficult day. I did my usual rounds the previous evening and had no reason to think anything would happen. Sydney was tucking into the rocket I gave them and seemed ok, the only sign in the last few days might have been that he was falling over more. My daughter woke me up in the morning to say he wasn't moving (as you know he was in our bedroom). My dh hadn't gone to bed till after midnight and Sydney was still warm, so we don't think it had been long. Fortunately he wasn't alone when he passed and had Buffy with him.
I had to take my son to nursery, so I brought Theo in and gave them all some time together. They were sniffing him and climbing over him. It was heartbreaking to witness. I think they knew.
My dh took the day off work to support me and we took Sydney to the vets later in the morning. We have opted for a single cremation so that we can bring him home, it should take about a week. We are divided over whether we should scatter his ashes when the time is right or keep them. I would prefer to keep them and I've begun looking at urns / caskets.
My daughter has acted with such maturity and I'm so proud of the way she has coped. I found her a lovely rainbow bridge necklace which has a locket and a small rabbit on it. I will put up a photo when it arrives.
I had the difficult task of informing Sydney and Theos previous owners who we have kept in touch with. They are lovely and were very understanding. I think we can all take comfort from the fact that in the time he was here Sydney had a lovely life. He spent the summer months in our huge run, before moving into the shed with his friends x
