  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Obsessive licking/chewing front legs.

Well - I'm pleased to report that she seems almost back to normal now. The whole thing has been very odd. Saturday evening, after she'd had her meds, she left her legs alone. We were out most of Sunday and when we got back she'd been at them again and they were wet and sore. But also she'd started eating her hay more normally again - less loud rasping noises and more quickly. This morning, she woke me up digging in her hay bar, which she always did before (but hadn't for the last few days), and her poos were suddenly back to normal. And tonight there's really nothing wrong with her other than that she needs to put some weight back on.

We will see what happens as we bring her off the meds, but fingers crossed she's okay now. I was so convinced it was her teeth too. Now I'm wondering if she might have just had some hay stuck in her gum or something that was making her uncomfortable and making her chew oddly.

The time we spend trying to figure out what goes on with these little ones

Suffice it to say, it's great news that so far she seems back to normal bar putting some weight back on ...
Long may it last and perhaps you can have a break from worrying .. ! :D

That's such good news, it's awful seeing them suffer and not knowing the cause isn't it. Really hope she's ok now, sending nose rubs xxx
