The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Worried he might have eaten it!

New Kit
Hi! I am new here so I hope I am posting in the correct place. I have a small bun just under 5 pounds that is just over a year old. I noticed I am missing a half-inch long screw. It is from the hinge that holds the top open. I have looked all over for it. Looked around his hutch and outside. Took everything out of it, swept it, got a magnet and flashlight and can't find that one missing screw. Is it possible he ate it??! I don't know if that is something a rabbit could even swallow since he is so small. I know they will chew anything but how much and how big can they get down?
Thanks for any words of wisdom!

Mystery you can't find it! I really doubt he has eaten it though, like that would take some doing I reckon.. If he seems okay I wouldn't worry too much :)

What a worry! Like Graciee, though, I really doubt he has eaten it. I've never seen a bunny be interested in eating something metal, and even if he'd tried, he'd have noticed he can't chew it and spat it out, and also if he had eaten it, he would be very unwell right now. I'd be more worried about him possibly hurting his paw if he stepped on it, but it sounds like your search was very, very thorough, so it must not be in his hutch, at least. :)

No way a 5lb bunny would swallow a 1/2" screw. Dogs are another matter, but rabbits carefully chew everything.

Also depends what the screw was made of, not all metals are attracted by magnetism. If he's on grass, it might have got embedded, either way as others have said, I wouldn't worry that he's eaten it.

Thank you all so much! He is running around here like a wild man doing his binkies everywhere. I think he is fine. He is such a happy little guy. So glad I found this group!
