Why do you want to neuter your rabbit???

 Seriously!? That's weird. :? They charge about £150 to walk through the door OOH for a bunny.

The surgery is actually The Bridge, but the OOH is Vets4Pets...and they have no idea. The Bridge charge about £42 PER vacc.

My vets charged me about £94 for OOH, including meds. I also paid about £45 for two buns to be vaccinated. :thumb:

I actually wouldn't mind paying more if it was for a vet that specialised in rabbits..but The Bridge and Vets4Pets are just charging that much because they are greedy.
Whats OHH?

When one of our dogs had a wasp sting her face back in the summer I was quoted £128 for the appointment as it was our out of hours vets. When we arrived there were 2 people already waiting in the waiting room with their emergencies (also dogs). An hour later we were seen the swelling would go down on it`s` own anyway but if I wanted her to have an anti-inflamatory there would be an extra charge .As the face was nearly twice it`s normal size and I was worried about the throat closing I did feel it was an emergency! This practice is at least 20mins drive from us, I was so worried, my animals are my world.

Vets 4 pets are dreadful. I user to work there. Overall their charges are very high. Vac 4 life is sort of good but if your animal dies you don't get any refund and you can't transfer it. They are totally money focused and they have their pockets best interest at heart, not the animals. I have seen slightly injured animals bought in and they just put them to sleep rather than help them. They really are dreadful.

Animals such as strays; I.e. When their is no human to cough up for the bill for treatment.

This has been my general opinion of them. Obviously there will be good vets within these surgeries..but their prices are ridiculous.

In fact they were responsible for the slow and painful death of a rabbit at a rescue I volunteered at. She had E.C, and all they did was give her baytril, but I insisted on her having metacam and panacur. She recovered, partially...but then went downhill again. Runny poo, hard tum, looking in a lot of pain. They took her back and surprise, surprise, they just gave her baytril.
Eventually I managed to convince the owner to take the rabbit to a decent vet a little way away. The vet took one look at the bun and admitted her, got xrays done and realised that her kidneys were damaged beyond repair because of the E.C. She was pts. This could have been avoided if the crappy vets had done their bloody job properly.

My vet charged me 42 for the vaccination as well...
I hoped it would be cheaper cause the taxi is also 20 pound!

My vet said they see lots and lots of rabbits they recommend spaying does around 6 months but I read that for giants it should be done at a later age? However my vet did not know anything about that...

In Holland people also see no reason to spay a doe unless for behavioral problems.
They say that everyone is saying 80% based on 1 very old (outdated) research.

Truth is, I do see same statistics popping up EVERYWHERE but I can't seem to find the source of it..
They said I should not spay my girl unless necessary. Its making me confused.

That £42 is for the rest of the year though so you don't need to think about it now :)

The statistics for uterine cancer rose I thought.. I can't remember where I read it, but the risk of cancer is so high for 5 year olds+ that there is more chance of them having it than not, it is a risk that can be prevented though. But people on here have found their much younger rabbits with the cancer. Not to mention spaying gets rid of the need to dig where I've seen my previously unspayed female become obsessed with it and it drove me mental at 3am for hours but spaying stopped her completely, she was 4 when I had her spayed but if I didn't and I found she had the cancer I would never have forgiven myself. Also stops possible spraying, phantom pregnancies which can be stressful for the rabbit, improves litter training and she will be able to have a friend

I have to travel 20 mins to get to a vet that I actually trust with my buns. There are a few ok vets only a few minutes from me, but that's Vets 4 Pets...and everybody knows their pricing is absolutely extortionate!

Really? I use Vets4Pets and I don't have a problem with their prices. They are cheaper than the local vets around here.
When I was going to get Daisy spayed, the other vets tried to charge me double the amount of a normal sized rabbit, because she was a conti, and they weren't even going to tell me until I turned up on the day.
Vets4Pets were going to charge me £70 to get Daisy spayed, and the other local vets were going to charge me £140. I was disgusted that they didn't even think to tell me until I phoned up to rearrange the appointment!

I haven't really had any problems with them, except that they didn't really take Benji very seriously when we took him in, although I don't suppose anyone would know he had heart problems. Even when they did an autopsy, they really struggled to find out the cause of death and finally decided it was cardio myopathy.
