  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What is this? Please help

Young Bun
I have just noticed this on my bunny. Please help and tell me what it is. I will take the bunny to the vets tomorrow.

I have been doing some online research and I think it may be baytril burn. Reese had his annual vaccination a couple of weeks ago. Could it be that it is forming a scab and healing (it’s black and crusty on the outside)?

Sorry your photo won't show on my tablet, not sure if that's the same for everyone. I think the best thing would be to take your bunny to the vet to get it checked out.

Sorry about that. I tried to upload a photo each time I messaged but for some reason it’s not coming through. We will go to the vets to be sure it is batrils burn.

Don't worry it might just be my old tablet. Good luck at vets, let us known how you and bunny get on x

I can see the picture in the link you posted, but I'm sorry I don't know what it is. It definitely looks like a vet should look at it, though, so that's good that you have an appointment soon. I hope your bunny will be okay. Sending him lots of vibes.

I can’t see the photo on the link but it is fairly common to have a reaction at the vaccination site.

Did he have an injection of baytril or just his annual vaccination? It looks quite nasty, could be a reaction to his annual vaccination, hope the vet can help

Thanks all. We have booked in to see the vets this afternoon. I spoke with a vet and they have assured me it isn't Batrils burn as my bunny didn't have a batril vaccination. He only had the Myxi and RhD+ on 10th Aug. It doesn't look like ring worm either as it is black inside the circle. So I have no idea what it could be.
