  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What has killed rabbits? U/D results in

Just to let you know that the results came back as inconclusive but she will be going ahead with VHD vaccines anyway.

No other buns seem ill at all, but its not worth the risk.

Did she tell you anything that they found mandy? When we had VHD i had to have 2 of the rabbits PM'd one by my vet and they couldn't be sure so another went to the vet lab for extreme testing. If it is VHD she will need to get all her buns vaccinated at once and the vaccine takes anything from 5-7 days to create an immunity to VHD. She wont be able to take in anyother rabbits until 2 weeks after the last death and the virus can stay in the siol and ground for up to 4 years so any new buns she gets will have to be vaccinated either before they go to her of as soon as she gets them, then kept isolated where no other bun has been for a week. The best thing she can do is to treat everything with Virkon this wont kill the virus but it will nock it on the head a bit XX

No she didn't say what was found. Thank you very much for that information, I could never have imagined that VHD could stay around that long. I will certainly pass your advice on. x
