You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Urine scald

Good to hear doughnut is back to her magnificent self ... gives me hope for Teddy

Yes and it does look a bit pitiful when they are all shaved at the back but you need to think the wet fur isn't pulling at their skin so well worth it. It was mainly her tail that looked in such a sorry state.

Absolutely, you're right ... they look so pathetic without their fur, literally skin and bones.

In terms of urine scald, Teddy is definately improving although in terms of what's behind all this, we are still on a mission.

Yes I eventually found out after her being on so many different medicines and taking her to so many specialists/vets and spending £2,000 being told she was fine! She has acid reflux and also slow tract mobility, she gets constipated so when she was pushing down to toilet she was weeing herself. That's why she was constantly wet. One specialist told me after having her in for 2 days she was wet as she had sat in her urine, I said she hadn't she's wet all the time.

Good luck. Pleased that he's improving.

Here she is in her cone of shame. She did look cute but sad! I could only keep it on a few hours as she was so fed up.

Oh my .. cute indeed!

Well done getting to the bottom of her problem, but how costly  .. I imagine that diagnosis wouldn't have been on hardly anyone's radar,
let alone on top of anyone's list!

If only rabbits could communicate with us :)

I did say she was rubbing her throat constantly and making a gagging noise like she wanted to be sick. I know they can't. Took videos to show how abnormal it was and she was stomach pressing but everyone said she was fine. Saw my specialist now as a last resort and said if you tell me she's well then I'll just have to accept it. He looked in her eyes watched the video and said you've got a very sick rabbit.
No one had taken her bloods just done x rays. Her blood came back really high white blood cells she had a fungi infection in her stomach and all her oesophagus was ulcerated from the acid. After watching her all the time I said that once she's got out of her episode she toilets then she's fine. After lots of different medicines we've sorted out what works for her.
She is one of very few rabbits to have acid reflux but the other specialist told me she was healthy when she was wet and a little bit smelly bless her. So don't worry you'll get there in the end. I did after about a year!

The fact is that quite likely Doughnut may well have been written off by a lot of other people. She is very lucky you were so determined to and not that easily defeated :thumb:

I remember you showing me the video of Doughnut when she was really poorly and I was astonished that Vets had said the behaviour was 'normal'. Thank goodness you were so persistent and that you found MR.

Cara, I hope Teddy is coping OK at the moment xx

The trouble was she is my first rabbit and I didn't really know anything about rabbits but I could see she was in pain and it wasn't normal although every vet and specialist said she was fine. I then uploaded the video here to ask everyone's opinion and Jane and others told me it wasn't normal. I couldn't let her carry on how she was it was heartbreaking to watch her frantically rubbing her throat but didn't know what to do when you're told by experts it's normal. Apparently she was chinning her belongings.

Anyway how is Teddy now? Sounds like he's more comfortable and hopefully you can find out exactly what is wrong.

With virtually all vets except the very few we have to strongly advocate for our rabbits. They only have us! :D

Talking to my vet this morning, I told her of your experience - would you mind if I copied and paste as she would be interested in reading it?

Of course.

She's on permanent zantac for her acid reflux and then I have metacam metaclopramide and cisapride if she has an episode to give to her.

I meant to say we did initially try propalin to help with her urinating. My specialist seems to think it's good stuff. But her problem wasn't keeping hold of her urine so because we didn't know the cause this obviously didn't help. Have you been recommended that as it's for urine incontinence.

No, Propalin hasn't been mentioned, but I will look it up.

And thanks, I will pass on your experience to my vet

M suggested Propalin for one of my Rabbits too and it did help. But as you say, it depends on what is actually causing the incontinence xx

The odd thing is that at the moment, there is no dribbling and all the pee is in the litter tray.

He has had no treatment, so what is the reason for the improvement?

No idea. Did he gave antibiotics? Maybe they kicked in and it's cleared up totally. If everything is now normal fingers crossed it stays that way.
