  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello new here, I have been told over the phone today that my Netherland dwarf (I have 2 a boy ,girl red eyed whites) the girl is 6 will loose her teeth (not sure if it’s all of them yet) or put to sleep as it’s a big operation , I’m so upset 😭 I have read that they can live without teeth so I’m not giving up on her, she is beautiful and looks so healthy,so I want to know how to feed a gummy bunnie

I've no experience with this, but sending you lots of hugs and your girlie lots of vibes today. I have a red-eyed white doe and think they are beautiful  I hope that the outcome is positive.

I'll ask the Mods to move your thread to Health, where you will get more responses.

I'm sorry your girl bun has dental problems. I have read of rabbits managing to eat after having teeth out. I think you may be relying heavily on grated / finely chopped salad & veggies, moistened/ wet nuggets & possibly syringe feeding. Much will depend on which teeth & how your bunny as an individual copes. I hope you get some more replies & your vet is able to give some solid advice too.

I think you need more specific information-ie exactly how many teeth and which ones need removing and why.

Thank you all but it was to late for her I am devastated she has gone:cry: she was my favourite baby we had 6 and a half years together she used to lick me too, I had been giving her medicine over the weekend because she stopped eating last Friday and surging feeding her but it wasn’t working for long she just nibbled and picked at food , so the vets decided to X-ray her mouth and told me she would be in pain as the roots go high up in her face to just under her eyes because Sweeties face was flat, they watched her over night she would not eat on her own, I miss her so much but I have to look after her partner now Tiny Tim and my french lop Cinnamon, I’m just waiting to bring my baby home in her casket

This is sweetie
