Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Teddy is thin.

I have been very unwell the past 3 weeks and I am just recovering now. I took Ted out for a cuddle and he felt very thin, I can feel all his spine and his legs seen thin too, running my finger along his neck and back my finger goes up and down over his bones.

I haven't noted in recent days if he is eating hay but I know he is eating pellets and veg. But he also didn't seen as wriggly as usual being held. He normally is placid and cuddly but I can still feel his strength...

But he seemed like he just didn't have energy if you know what I mean. I looked at his teeth they seemed okay.

I don't know if I am imagining how this he is.. I'm going to take him for a vet check tomorrow.

I hope you're feeling better and good luck for the vets tomorrow. I noticed Beano suddenly felt thinner and although her teeth looked ok as far as you can see she did have small spurs on her very back molars so it could be he needs some dental work if you haven't noticed any other symptoms like excessive drinking etc.

What would excessive drinking indicate?

Thank you, it's a slow healing process but I'm getting there x

Good luck. When Doughnut was ill and lost weight my specialist suggested alfalfa hay to build her up. She loved it. I just gave her a handful a day and she got fatter!

I hope you find the root of the problem.

Okay.. so my worries have been confirmed, Teddy is underweight and his back top teath are very worn down, his bottom back teeth are very prominent. She weighed him at 700grams. He is going in tomorrow for dental with an awesome bunny vet, all paws crossed 😔

I am so glad I noticed!

Good luck with Teddy's dental! That's quite a small weight - can you feed him a few extra soaked pellets today to keep his strength up for the op?

I hope you feel much better soon too x

The vet called and said he is too underweight to do a anaesthetic so we are picking him up and we have to syringe feed him 'baby food'. It's such a worry. We are going to set up an indoor pen for him and Pony so she can give him comfort... Such a worry 😞

Ah I did wonder. You have a good vet who will hold back on that, most would go ahead I fear ..

Baby food, critical care, hopefully you can get lots into him. I have found you can build a bunny back up in 3/4 days if necessary :thumb:

Omg, I'm so upset... If I hadn't noticed he could have slipped away. Is it a good idea to have Pony his wife bun with him? They are joined at the hip. Will it help.. or hinder, will he not care if he is so unwell. Poor Ted, gutted 😞

I think that most Rabbit Savvy Vets would feel the same re wanting Teddy to gain some weight before subjecting him to a GA. As I expect your Vet advised, with the supportive feeds its best to do little and often rather than to try to get too much into him at once. Little and often reduces the risk of bloating. Having him indoors will mean that he wont be burning off calories to keep warm, as would be the case outside, especially overnight. You'll also be able to keep a closer eye on exactly what he is eating for himself.

Do you have someone who could help with the feeds? As you have been so poorly yourself you do need to make sure you get some rest too. Giving intensive nursing care to a poorly Rabbit 24/7 is draining even if we are in good health ourselves.

Lots more vibes being sent for Teddy xx

I should take Pony in there too. I find it's comforting to them and keeps both bunnies in the picture and knowing what's going on :D

Ted will be fine with a little more fat on him, I'm sure! Have hope :)
