  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sugar Rabbit has stopped eating and drinking...and pooing.....Do bunnies survive?

I think buns can be born with EC. My bun Storm had it nearly two years ago, and she made a full recovery. I hope your bun can beat it too. Sending lots of vibes for Sugar xx

Interesting. I'd rather the Vets tell me the truth so that I can understand the treatment offered. Would you give an antibiotic to deal with protozoa?

Yes sometimes. For example, Giardia the protozoan that affects the intestines in humans is treated with metronidazole antibiotic or ciprofloxacin.

The drug treatment of choice for EC is of course an anti-parasitic drug.

Yes. Can be contracted in-vitro as far as I know.

Hello again everyone

I'm sad to say that Sugar passed away about three hours ago.

I picked him up from the vets and by the time I had him home he had become very floppy. I called the Vet and while I was on the phone, he passed away.
I went back up to the vets with him for the vet to see him and the vet showed me the xrays. Showed his stomach was really large and he guesses it was pushing on his other organs.

RIP Sugar :( xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
