Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stuff/cuts in ears :(

I'd do it on the first and last day of treatment xx
Thanks Jane :)

Never steamed wood before, will it take a long time to dry? Just thinking I won't be about to start till like 6pm, wondering if its not possible to get it steam cleaned tonight and dry and remade for them? Might actually have to wait till Saturday :( xx

That will be OK xx

Good luck with the ear mites. I took 2 girls off someone and they both had them. It can take a while to get rid of them.

I once got a 50 lb. box of second cut Timothy hay that not only had the bunnies flapping but had me covered in tiny little red bites from unseen marauders for a month even though I turfed the hay out within a week of realizing what they were. :( I never bought that kind again and never had another issue, but I was literally bathing in tea tree oil for a few weeks to get rid of the :censored:

This was while we were in Alaska and it was just about this time of year. This is just a guess but I think there's seasonal surges of these pests. Good luck with the clean out and hope things improve for you soon. xxxx

So back from the vets, vet said it didn't really look like typical mites, she looked in the ears said there was no scaling down there? Which apparently is very typical of mites.. But said it could be just very early stages as what's in those pictures is literally all that's there, nothing else further down in the ears. Did the first mite injection anyway as we assume it's that. And I've been given 2 more injections to give them in 2 weeks time.

Whilst we was there they had a good check over etc, Penelope launched herself into my arms and wouldn't be put down [emoji38] were both weighed.. Apricot has lost some weight :( she was 3.6kg recently, but is now 3.2kg vet said she's not underweight but we aren't sure why she's lost some as she was a perfect weigh before tbh, not overweight at all.. So not sure what to do about that... And in the other extreme, Penelope has gained weight [emoji51] so she was recently 4.5kg..shes now 4.9kg.. Nothing in their diet has changed so I'm a bit confused.. Anyone got any theories? [emoji51] Apparently Penelope is fine she's not overweight but nearer the top end of her healthy weight now.
