Stroller for rabbits

KCG

Warren Veteran
Hi,
What do you think of cat & dog strollers? :D I want to use this when I take Cookie out for a ride. I'm thinking of buying a stroller for Cookie. Does anyone use this? How can I get him used to the stroller? :D

Personally I wouldn’t use one for a rabbit, unless there was no other alternative such as having to walk to the vets and it being too far to carry a carrier. I think most rabbits would be scared and stressed by the experience. You would need to use a carrier inside it as a rabbit could chew through the material quickly. That’s just my opinion though.

IMO strollers are not suitable for Rabbits. Rabbits are a prey species and would instinctively be afraid being transported in such an open way. This being especially true for Rabbits who live indoors and seldom go outside. An enclosed ventilated Pet Carrier is suitable to transport a Rabbit when necessary, such as for a trip to the Vet. Unlike Dogs most Rabbits do not enjoy going for walks because they will feel exposed and vulnerable in a space that is not their own.

I wanted to take her with this stroller while I was going for a walk or shopping of hairdresser or going to the mall. :| Frankly I think I'm treating him a little bit like a baby. I see him like my baby, even if I go on vacation, I go with him, I never leave it to the petsitter or anyone else. Parasites and flies, insects I don't take him out because I'm afraid he will get sick. So you're saying it's not a good option in this status..
First cookie's happiness is important, then I won't buy a stroller. It is very important for Cookie to feel comfortable and happy. I was so envious when I saw the stroller. :D :D

A rabbit really isn't going to like 'going out' like this. Rabbits can easily get stressed in a carrier going on an essential trip to the vet. Subjecting a prey animal to the strange sights, smells & sounds of a hairdresser or shopping mall for 'fun' amounts to cruelty, in my opinion. You are risking Cookie's health by doing things like this - rabbits are sensitive creatures and go into stasis or shock very easily if they feel threatened. He will be much safer and happier at home.

Similarly. walking a rabbit on a harness and lead in the local park is also not good - it exposes them to predators (eg dogs) and diseases that they woud not come into contact with in their home environment. They also do not walk to heel like a dog, so a lead restricts how they can move and will cause additional stress.

Relaxx :D Cookie isn't going anywhere. But when I go out I get sad when he is alone in that house so I considered options if I can take it with me. I'm usually with him all the time, I thought if he could be with me outside. Normally I don't take him out because I'm afraid he will get sick. For a moment, the idea of a stroller without touching the ground, away from the risk of disease, seemed good to me. But not suitable for him, so I won't consider this plan.
But I don't leave it to anyone when I take it on vacation or something. Cookie doesn't go out except on vacation and going to the vet. The important thing is that Cookie is happy and safe. :)

I have a stroller which I and my friend uses to take the Bunnies to the Vets but they are safe in their pet carrier. It's really a pushchair so the carrier sits on the seat. I don't think a trip to the hairdressers is a good idea though as the sprays could upset Cookie's nose! :D

Haha  Yes, I'm sure it will be very uncomfortable for him. :D My dream is that Cookie can sit next to me while I get a manicure/pedicure. I just don't like to leave him at home, I want to take him everywhere like a baby. :D But he will have to stay at home. Do you have a picture of your bunny in the stroller, I would like to see if you want to share. It must be so cute, I'm so envious when I see it.

I am the same as Tonibun, I invested in a stroller for vet visits and vet visits alone. I'm without a car, and vet visits were a total nightmare, esp with Luna as due to her illnesses, I was at the vets most weeks tbh. Luna weighed 2.7kg and Orion 2.4kg, making 5.1kg of rabbit to carry a mile there (and a mile home) was physically exhausting. I ended up injuring my back & worsening my wrist, which was at the point a stroller seemed a worthwhile investment instead of hurting my health. the carrier also weighs close to 1kg or so, so, 6kg for 2 miles.. oof

& now with the trio: 2.4kg, 1.2kg, and 1.7kg, making 5.3kg of rabbit. the two babies are still growing too so it could end up a lot heavier

I find it to be much more steady than attempting to walk & carrying them. walking they'd rock around a lot, esp if they moved around, the stroller is more steady in that sense. due to anxiety, generally speaking taxis/public transport is a huge nope for me (not to mention the pandemic also).

I make sure the strollers dark & covered to *try* and minimise stress, and also keep any weather off of them (strong winds, rain, etc). or other people smoking. blanket won't do much really but I hope it helps some extent. if its cold out, I'll pop a snuggle safe in one end so they have the choice to cuddle up.

you def get some funny looks! when I had to transport Luna the down over to see a specialist, we went via train. some people had a laugh when they realised I had an animal in there, and even more of a laugh when it was two rabbits with little Luna looking around & Orion looking miserable (poor guy, got tagged along for visits against his will lol)

I haven't had an issue with mine chewing the fabric (but I can see that being a hazard), and its very secure. unfortunately my carrier doesn't fit in the stroller as I had hoped :(

I think strollers are a good investment when used for the *right* reasons. rabbits are home turf animals and shouldn't be taken out places as mentioned above. outside is scary & stressful and they get very little enjoyment out of it (new territories are scary, as are all the sights and sounds). nothing wrong with a stroller if your intention is just for vet visits & you're walking!

I'm a bit like an American in that regard, I go everywhere by car. :D I just thought of buying it because I wanted it to be with him at the bazaar, the hairdresser or something. :D But yes, I understood that it was not the right decision but his appearance is very sympathetic. :D

Should be a good option for you. I understand people laughing when they see this, they could even take a picture of it in Turkey because it's not common at all. If I saw you like that with your bunnies, I would like to look at them too. :D I would like to see your bunnies pictures if you want to share. :) Also how do you take care of so many bunnies? I'm keeping a bunny and it takes a lot of my time. :D

I had a dog push chair for rabbit and guinea pig vet trips. They go in a carrier in the push chair. I found that I had to stoop a bit which was uncomfortable so recently upgraded to a lovely old fashioned silver cross babies pram. MUCH more comfortable to push. Feel a bit self concious though!

This style of pram but not for this price!!!

I say pet stroller. :D But I hope those in the forum don't think it's a baby stroller because I call it a stroller, it's the pet stroller I'm talking about. :D

But I gave up on the stroller. But when I imagine you like that, it feels so sympathetic. :D
