  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone,

Our vet has recommended that we keep an eye on Sparky's weight as he lost a little bit between his visits in December and January. He had these visits as he developed an ear infection which thankfully has cleared up with meds.

He is 12 and half, has cataracts in both eyes and an arthritic left knee though we think he may have some arthritic changes in his other legs as he really was not happy the other day when we clipped his claws.

He is on 0.5ml of metacam twice a day and always seems to be munching hay and he is given excel mature nuggets once a day as well as occasional kale. He does go for his nuggets but sometimes he will have a couple then go back to munching on hay and as long as he is eating I'm happy.

Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations for scales that we can weigh him on. Our kitchen scales are very small so aren't suitable; I have found this set but just wanted to see what people could recommend / thought.
