  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rosey update...

The vets have just called to say that her urin sample was clear :thumb: and that they think it might be parasitic hence the mention of the gut fuction issue with her blood tests...rather than anything connected to her kidneys...so they are sending her home on panacur (9 days). Am i right in thinking that 9 days isnt enough? should I ask them for more?

She has put on weight too :thumb: I think she likes being a house bunny...is it possible that her weight problems were maybe due to a problem with her bond with Lily? they never fought/humped/chased that I saw but im wondering if she just wasnt ever totaly happy? She is like a different bun at the moment (although that could be moving inside and seeing more of us i guess!) but she is confident, happy, nosey and a little piggy when it comes to food!

It sounds as though Rosey is doing better now. You need to ask the Vet if the Panacur is being prescribed for intestinal parasites or for EC. The duration of treatment will differ.

I'm glad she is doing better too. It's possible that she knew Lily was ailing and so couldn't be comfortable or happy due to that, so it's not that their bond wasn't successful, just that Rosey knew Lily was not ok. As long as she is doing better now, that's the main thing. :)

Thanks :)

Jane, they are treating her for EC... I will order more panacur from vetuk :thumb: Its more expensive from the vets anyway

Do i need to treat poppy and daisy? they have no direct contact as they arnt bonded with rosey and never have been but I go between the bunnies :? Their hutch is next to roseys outdoor hutch.

I need to get roseys old hutch clean and sorted as we have some new adoptees moving in there soon ;) So im going to scrub it with boiling water and a strong disinfectant...the bowls, toys and litter trays will all be done too :)

Rosey is due her myxo jab (she would have had the single) but we have held off at the moment...should i be concerned? she is now a house bunny but obviously I know that doesnt protect her 100%! :?
