  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rectal Valium used - Triple fits - 22/12/11

:( poor darcy..its good you heard him and responded so fast:thumb:

the injectable form is too dangerous with me....the rectal tubes dangerous enough...but to have an epileptic attack myself..whilst in charge of a syringe with needle:shock::shock:

hope you can get some if you find it easier..

has the vet said anything about using anti-epileptic meds? Bertie was too ill for GA to have brain scan....but we kinda figured it was probably an abscess or lesion caused by the pastuerella. We decided to treat the epilepsy with meds daily for as long as he survived. As i said hes on one phenobarbitol pill twice a day with a pinch of bisolvon with it....and 12kg dog dose of metacam twice daily to damp down inflammation and ease pain.

It takes a while for the meds to stabilise in the system...but if it doesnt stop the seizures but lessens them..its a positive step compared to the blind panic watching a poor bun seize.

liz, bertie did that...we were terrified he was going to break his back or neck with it too:(

nosey rubs for darcy....hugs for you hun....its so upsetting to watch to witness seizures in darcy...any pet...any child...and even an adult......terrifying.

Tell darcy hes a handsome boy still
