  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit LOTS protein in urine. U/D. He has a home here till...U/D pics

Not rambling, being beer helpful:thumb:. He has been not grass in the run every day when the weather is ot too bad so is hopefully getting used to it gradually. I am fortunate to be a stay at home mum which means the buns all get plenty outside time. Hubby work in the conservatory and keeps an eye on my own two who free range in the back garden.

I hope you don't get RSI from typing so much, I am glad that all the typing is going to help my blind, tail-less and kidney problems bunny.

Sounds like a good situation as far as being at home goes :)

I work from home and i have free-range house bunnies, so that works out well for me too :)

re the RSI, i'm an IT engineer, i work on a bustling helpdesk doing over 100 support calls per day, so i'm fairly good at typing. That little lot didnt take too long to type. RSI would be a killer injury in my job

How comes Oliver is tail-less? Is it genetic, or did something happen?

We have absolutely no idea. He was abandoned on a doorstep in a tiny cat carrier. His matts were terrible, the worst had to be shaved under anaesthetic when he was neutered. Wasn't until I was working on the rest of him that I noticed. :(

My husband is an end to end solution designer and we know the probs RSI can bring. He has various different mice (!) to help have different positions to keep his wrist in and a splint for days when it is really bad. It is worst when doing diagrams because there is so much mouse work involved.

As everyone knows my experience is of a bunny with serious gut slowdown not kidney failure, & it's a problem getting enough water in for different reasons!

I give him as much fluid a possible in his food. I moisten his pellets, until they can be just picked up, & grass/fresh weeds/herbs are a great help. The massive bonus is that not only does it help to keep him going but he enjoys it, unlike his medicines! So he has quality of life too.
He'll eat different weeds/herbs to a renal bunny. It was trial & error with us too. Grahm & Parsnipbun are the most experienced people feeding renal buns I know from the forum. Rabbitnutrition knows a lot about what weeds a bunny can eat on their site too.

Please will anyone with experience in this area help Aliduncan & Oliver?

Thank you Judy. I have bought some leaves and seeds from Rabbit Nutrition and have asked both them and Galen's Garden for any advice they can give as to which plants, leaves or flowers would be of most benefit to him. Hopefully they can help too!

A couple of photos of the boy himself!

Awww bless him. :love::love::love::love:
I want to give him a HUGE cuddle but with his recent experience of severe neglect that's probably the last thing that HE wants.
I'll settle for a little nose rub if he likes them.

Judy sums up what i wanted to say perfectly!

A big up to you for taking him on

He's a beautiful scruffy old man :D

He is a wee soul. I will give him big cuddles and nosedive from both of you! He loves snuggling under my chin while I rub his head.:love::love:
