Potential Fosterer

Dear members of the 'Rabbits United' forum I wonder if you would be so kind as to offer your advice and opinions on housing.

At present, I am being evaluated on my suitability as a fosterer for a local registered charity.

However, I do not have any suitable hutches for rabbits - the only hutch I own is a single 5ft x 2ft x 2ft hutch.

Therefore, I have been searching for suitable hutches - with the minimum measurements of 6ft x 2ft x 2ft. However, I have yet to find good sized, good quality hutches, which are reasonably priced.

Therefore, I was hoping that some of you may know of an individual who custom builds hutches, or, indeed, have a suggestion/s.

Thank you.

If you are looking to adopt a pair of rabbits, it would be good to contact a local resuce who may be able to advise on their rehoming criteria. Many rescues work on a basis of 36 square feet for a pair of medium sized rabbits.

Good hutch manufacturers include:
Rydale http://www.rehutches.com/rabbit-hutches.php there hutches are very well made and very heavy. They will adapt hutch designs to fit your specification, do note that some of their hutches are not 2 foot high, however they will make them that height for you.

Happy hutch http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/details.php?product=70 go for the 6 x 2 x 2 hutch version

Kernow pet housing - they have stopped advertising on the internet but still make to order, they have a 10 year guarantee. Search Kernow on this forum and you will see some pictures of what they make. Again he will make to order

Wendy houses and sheds are an alternative option with an attatched run. There are lots of photos on this forum of what people have made from them.

O/P said she is being evaluated as to her suitability to foster rabbits for a local charity - don't think she intends to adopt ....:?

Thank you for your response, Janice. However, as Babsie has highlighted, I am not planning to adopt, but foster for a local registered rescue.

I adore Ryedale's hutches. However, naturally, my budget is limited.

N.B. She is a he!

If you have the room a shed is ideal and a lot cheaper... however my shed is currently at a friends for the next 8 monthes pr so because it wouldn't fit in the yard at my new house (landlord moved us due to a heating problem in the other one) :( I have purchased this hutch which I am very pleased with, I got one on auction for £90

I also have one of these at my mums for when I stay over with the bunnies but I'm not particulatly impressed, the wood has warped in the rain and I had to make my own ramp coz the one provided was so narrow they wouldn't use it.

Thank you for your much appreciated suggestions, Blu_vix.

I am exploring a few avenues at present - I did not realise how difficult it was to find a rabbit hutch which is not only practical, but desirable to the purchaser.

It's a shame you are so far away from me. I could have easily built one to your own spec & budget but I think the transport cost would make it unfeasable.

Ebay, saw loads on there just ending for about £30 each the other day.... you'd have to collect though
