New Kit
Hi all. New here but come seeking advice. I have a five year old Himalayan lop called Rosie and I’m finding it very hard to keep her bum clean lately. She’s a large girl, and mostly indoors. I’m having to clean her underneath due to urine stains, and trim the fur occasionally down there. I’ve been limiting bathing her down there because I don’t want to distress her (and she also loses bladder control when I’m washing that area, which makes me think she may also be a little incontinent) Sensitive unfragranced baby wipes have been my go to, though today i noticed the skin looked particularly red. There’s no cracking of skin but the fur is sparse. She finds it hard to wash herself there because her dewlap is quite big! Should I take her to the vets or is there a way of easing possible discomfort for her at home? Any ointment I could use on the sore skin?
Her indoor area and cage is cleaned daily. She does seem to get messy when she goes outside to play in the garden, and tends to urinate a lot after this. I have to clean her around twice a week currently but I don’t want to inflame her skin even more!
