  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Peter eating and drinking but not toileting... :(

Good morning!

Peter is hopping around my bedroom at the moment.

He has had his medicine and 10ml of pineapple for breakfast.

He has not had a wee during the night but as I was going to bed about 11:30pm ish I noticed hom eating something - his poop. But where is the yucky poop that they are not supposed to eat??!!! He has not done any other poops in the cage that I can see.

He is still drinking water.

Is it ok for him to be producing poops that he eats and not the other?

And how long can he go without weeing?

Thanks.

The dark small grape like poops are caecotropes and are the ones he should be eating. It is his normal round drier poops that should be left as waste.

Anaesthetic can cause disruption to the function of the bladder, he might even need to have his bladder expressed. I believe this rabbit is in need of some veterinary intervention and probable admission.

Peter went back to the vets today to be checked.

His bladder is not full and the vet said that there was not a blockage.

He simply needs to eat MORE food. He is being very fussy ay the moment so we are struggling with his food intake. He also HATES the recovery food!

Good morning!

Peter Rabbit pooped and had lots of wees yesterday - I actually needed to change his litter tray! He pooped and had a wee during the night and is also eating his food.

I cleaned out his outside cage and moved him back out with the girls this morning. I havent given him any veg, just lots of hay (different types) and a small bowl of dried food.
