Paracetamol Suspension?

Hi!

My (very rabbit knowledgeable) vet has prescribed my bun paracetamol suspension for dental issues.

Just wondered if anyone else had ever used it and what sort of reaction they had?

Anything I can find suggests they shouldn't have it but I do trust my vet.

I've no experience with my own rabbits but have read about its use fairly regularly on here (& not in a bad way). If my savvy vet suggested its use i'd go for it (though wise to check, always). a few years back I never heard of its use. did your vet say why they were opting for paracetamol over, say, Metacam.?

Thank you for your reply! It is a combo of both as she has quite severe abcesses and dental infections.

My old boy is on it up to 3 times a day and has been for a couple of months now. He has got so used to it I am sure he knows what it does, so he chooses whether he wants it each time - most morning and some evenings he skips it but always takes it at night, but with the cold recently he's been taking it most times. It's made a huge difference, and seems to be very well tolerated.
The first few times we dipped the end in fruit puree to get him started but over a few days he got used to the flavour and takes it as it is now.

My 10 year old bun has paracetamol suspension (6 years+) alongside Meloxicam for arthritis as he has kidney disease so not to have the Meloxicam dose so high. He's been on it maybe 2 years, 3x per day. He has a rabbit specialist vet.

Both my buns have Calpol for arthritis. I've got loxicom too but we don't use that at the moment as Calpol is doing the job. Daisy was first to have it and Harry was actually jealous she was getting it! He's very happy now as he's very slow so the vet suggested giving it to him and its really helped. They're both 12.5 now, bless them.

Our retired rabbit specialist vet recommended using Calpol during a series of lectures for owners, about seven/eight years ago.

Amongst other dialogue, she also said, if you need to use a painkiller and it's out of hours, going to a supermarket and buying Calpol may be preferable to paying an out of hours fee. (In very specific circumstances, of course).
