  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pain posture and signs

How do we know if the rabbit has pain? Also, what does hunched posture and painful posture look like? Also what are pain signals?

I'm asking this because I'm curious. I'm asking this to find out if there is something I don't know.

Jane, I'm always wondering if there's something about Cookie that I've overlooked. I say Cookie sleeps standing all the time, here it happens in the same writhing position. Cookie is not comfortable but no one can find the reason, nothing on examination or x-ray, looks healthy. He eats well and poops, examination is normal. But I suspect Cookie has pain, but I can't do anything, no one knows why.

I'll mark what's in the pictures in Cookie, can you take a look?

PS. Cookie is currently using Melox (painkillers), but this continues though

For example, now he sleeps standing up again. But his ears and eyes are fine, generally fine. Even when he sleeps standing up, when I pet his head, he immediately lies down. But sometimes his ears and eyes fit as I marked in the picture.

I would need to see him irl to get full context . From the photos he does not look hunched, his ears are in a normal position and he isn’t squinting.

Now if I have the chance, I'll send Cookie to his auntie Jane on vacation. It would be nice if he could spend some time with you and observe, I am very curious about his observations. :D
