  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My rabbit is dying

Unfortunately I just got home and went to see my buns and my buck was in the corner not coming over I picked him up he was limp out him on the bed he moved his feet like he was trying to run. But his head and legs are all limp. I am phoning vet currently on waiting line to see but feel it is too late and he will likely pass soon. I just wonder what may have caused this as he was full off life before

You don't say how old he is, or any other history.

Just in case there is hope:
- floppy rabbit syndrome https://www.unusualpetvets.com.au/floppy-bunny-syndrome/
- and it's worth asking about EC - a common parasite in rabbits.

Both are treatable, but require some intensive nursing care for a while (feeding, cleaning, etc). Obviously it could be something else entirely, but it is worth asking your vet about these if there's nothing else obvious.

Meanwhile, I would keep him comfortable and provide some additional warmth if his ears feel cold. Make sure he isn't getting too warm, though, if he can't move away. Avoid anything that causes him any additional distress, and see what your vet suggests

Hugs to you both.

Sounds like it may be ‘ Floppy Rabbit Syndrome’ unless he has sustained a neck injury. I hope the Vet can help.
