  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just a Mimzy update for those interested :)

MimzMum

Wise Old Thumper
Took him in for his suture recheck today and met the 'new' exotics specialist at my vet's. Although I was a bit shocked at how he held Mimzy whilst examining him (supported his bum well but had a bit of a death grip on his neck  ) he gave the scar a good feel and pronounced him sound. :) No sign of swelling or abscess. He said it'll likely take another two weeks to heal completely. :(

Poor Mimz. He wasn't really happy with yet another trip to town. :( I gave him good treats at home and learned that Pip (who is housed in the kitchen with him now) was raising Cain all day. Hm...she must've objected to his long absence. I wonder if, when he's all healed, they might make a couple again? :)
If nothing else it shows me she's adjusted to her new digs. She's seemed much more lively and engaged with her surroundings. I've even caught her and Mimz sharing the same sides of their enclosures. It's very encouraging and I think Mimzy is happy for the company. :)

I do think Fiver misses her presence in the bedroom but he is making up for it by pestering Jenna.

Oh...and Mimzy's ear infection appears to be clearing up despite my lousy attempts to keep his drops in his ear after dosing. He wears more of it on his face than his ear canal. I was also afraid he might be developing another lump on the opposite side but the vet couldn't feel anything untoward.
His histology report came back today and it was a fatty lipoma. Benign. But because his vet couldn't get the tendrils reaching for his jugular vein it may return someday. :( I really hope not because I don't want him to have to endure another surgery like this one.

Had to drive in by myself again but it was such a beautiful afternoon I didn't mind. One of the last we'll see this season since snow is forecast for month's end. The bunnies are going to miss their fresh greens from the yard.

By the way...does anyone know how long you can feed fresh forage in autumn? Should I stop once the leaves/shoots become frost burned or are they good till they visibly wilt? I don't want to risk GI troubles. TIA.

Glad to hear Mimzy is doing well :). I was just thinking about you all last night.

I have no idea about the forage. Would be good to know, although most of our leaves disappear before the frosts come.

Oh I'm so pleased it was benign :thumb: hopefully it won't come back, fingers crossed :thumb: I'm sure you are in his good books now he's had treats ;)

Sounds like all the animals are very happy :thumb: because I'm a relative newbie I'm not sure I've seen pics of your gang, and as you don't have a siggy I don't "know" them very well, can I request a thread of pics of them all please ;)

That sounds like good news, hope the wound continues to heal well. I seem to remember reading somewhere not to feed frost-bitten veg but I could be mistaken.

What a relief !!

I am a bit over-cautious with feeding forage. You'd be best to PM parsnipbun about it, she's bound to be a more reliable source of advice than me xx

Glad to read this positive update.

Dont know about frost bitten greenery but it doesnt sound appealling.

I also agree with Zoobec, we need (need) pics of your gang.

Aww i had no idea Mimz had to have surgery! I've not been around much lately. I'm so glad he's doing ok and that everyone seems happy! x
