  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hiding meds in food

I’ve used mashed banana, fruit/veg baby food or purée to mix meds in but it depends on the bunny and the meds in question.

I have nothing but envy for every one of you that has had this work for them - every single one of my buns has always known
The only thing I've had success with is the panacur paste, making three holes in a piece of banana and squeezing it into them. Had to do it recently for Jazzie. She knew and gave me the most displeased face each time but thankfully her desire for the banana overwhelmed her

I have cared for 152 Rabbits over the last 26 years. Not one has like Banana

 oh wow! Both at the number and at the not liking banana. My lot would murder for it!! They all do the little 'butt dance' Only my very first girl Willow didn't like it. I always assumed she was one of very few rabbits in the world who didn't like it! She did like the dried banana chips though (didn't know back then that they weren't so good for buns).
Another of her quirks was that she liked carrot, but only if you sliced it thinly. She'd sulk a little if you gave her a whole piece

Thank you everyone for your replies. Re banana, I have had 12 bunnies in the last 20 years and only one liked banana!

When I see all the videos of Banana crazy Bunnies I do wonder if the Bunnies I have had are just weird. To be honest it never crossed my mind to offer Banana to a Rabbit until I saw so many people doing so as a treat. But not one showed the slightest interest, some even ran away and thumped

Oh, well thank goodness someone else has had Bunnies who don’t like Banana
