  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help! Two of my pet bunnies have suddenly died

I am so sorry for your loss of your two girls. You must be absolutely heartbroken over Flora and Connie and terrified for Thistle at the same time.
Thistle is still with you and you are doing what you can to keep him safe until you can get him to the vets in the morning. Sending you some positive vibes for a good outcome for Thistle.

I managed to get Thistle to the vets this morning - he’s now had his first vaccination (Nobivac), and they’re now ordering in the VHD2 vaccine for him to have in 2 weeks time. The vet said that his weight and temperature are both looking good, but I’m going keep him inside until his vaccinations are finished and he has full immunity. I’ve also got some Virkon due to arrive today, so I can hopefully start disinfecting all of the hutches.

Thank you all so much for the kind words, advice and support you’ve all given me (and Thistle!) :D

You're welcome - this is a horrible situation for you to be in :(

You're doing the right thing. I'm glad your vet is supportive.
