Haylage is baled and wrapped (usually the same day) in plastic to retain the moisture.. Once opened haylage has to be usued reasonably quickly or it starts to heat and if fed can cause bad tummy upsets (colic in horses).
Hay has to be turned quite a few times over a few days.. to dry out before being baled and there is no time limit when using it.
I feed my horse haylage but share a bale with someone else.. or I wouldnt get through it before it went off..
