Hay bales west yorkshire

fionas

New Kit
Hi all. just wondering if any of you knew of anywhere that sells good quality Hay Bales in west Yorkshire, im between Halifax and Huddersfield so as close to here as poss.
and preferably if they sell the small hay bales as opposed to the standard size one. been using Hay Box club for a few years but with 8 rabbits its getting costly, so wanting to mix that in with other hay now.
thanks

Hopefully someone local can help, but try looking for equestrian supplies or feed merchants, if you can find one local they will hopefully sell good quality baled hay :thumb:

Coton and Ellis, Halifax

They are also on ebay:

From Halifax centre, go up Pellon Lane, past P@H on right, West Mount Vet on left. It's a mill building down a road on the left (used car sales place on corner), before the traffic lights.

Lovely quality hay. Very soft. Cheapest I use. Standard 2 string bales.

I also use Burnhills at Cleckheaton (near the swimming pool), but it's noticeably more expensive and not as nice at the moment. It's been very stalky this year (too harsh for G Pigs), and the bale I got this week was useable, but not their usual standard. They do all sorts of animal feed / equestrian supplies.

hi i get my feed form cotton and Ellis so know where it is, i find their Hay to be of poor quality compared to the Hay Box clubs, hence i dont buy it from them, i also was sick of finding dead things in the hay 🤢. i have also used Burnhills years ago but found then i a local feed place that sells wood shavings cheaper near myself in Elland, so not ised them for yrs.
i have found a place since posting this in Huddersfield, that looks to sell a better quality Hay.

I've had no issues at all with hay from Coton & Ellis over the last year that I have used them. Hay does naturally vary in quality anyway, and bales at under £6 from a local supplier more than makes up for the odd one being just 'OK', rather than 'perfect', especially compared to £35 for the equivalent from a Hay Box club.

There may be places where you can buy the odd bale of hay straight from the farm - there are a few local places that put boards up on the roadside to advertise it. The first hay cuts should be done soon, so it may be worth looking out for these.

I hope you find what you are looking for with your new supplier
