  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Droopy Eartips

I have a feeling this is going to be the oddest thing I've ever taken a rabbit to the vets for.

Quinn, over the last week, now has noticeable drooping in both ears. I've googled this and only got responses that rabbits that are hot can do this. I've never seen it happen before and I've been around a lot of rabbits, plus it's not that warm here right now and if anything his ears feel cold. I'm not really feeling it as an explanation.

I can't see any damage or clinical signs with the ears other than this. He's generally ok behaviour wise. He's shaping up to be one of my more veterinarily irritating rabbits, with lung damage and a recent brush with liver issues.

Thanks. It's so strange to look at and I'm more wary with him. It's like his ears are melting

It can be a sign of vitamin deficiency, usually Vit A and E. Although this is usually seen in Kits and it is quite rare.Given you mention he has had Liver problems I would speak with your Vet about the newly drooping ear tips. The liver plays a big part in the metabolism of Vit A
