Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dribbling urine but no obvious causes

Hello,

First time poster here. My rabbit Hazel (1 year old, spayed) started exhibiting symptoms of a UTI about two weeks ago. The symptoms were drinking more, urinating in certain spots near her litter tray, but the most concerning one is that she seems to be dripping urine. She went on a course of metacam and antibiotics and the vet concluded from her urine there was no infection. She had x-rays and an ultrasound on Monday and they could see nothing wrong with her kidneys or bladder, but there was some sludge there so they gave her a bladder flush. For about 48 hours the symptoms completely disappeared but they started up again on Wednesday evening. The vet suggested that it can take a few days for the symptoms to clear, and to see how she is after she finishes her medication on Monday (metacam and cerenia) but I’m starting to get worried. He said a blood test is the next step but seems to suggest it may not show anything. She is absolutely normal in all other behaviour, running around and playing, eating normally etc.
Is there anything else I could be doing in the meantime or should be pushing the vet to do? Has anyone been in this situation where there isn’t an obvious cause?

3 weeks ago my rabbit had a problem of dripping pee. The meds were good and they didn't see any bladder sludge. So I don't know exactly what to do, those in the forum will give better advice. But clean the litter tray every day. Also if you're giving alfalfa, stop giving them, it can make bladder sludge. Don't give high-calcium vegetables. And always make sure to drink plenty of water. Welcome to RU. I'm sorry Hazel is having these problems - its very frustrating when you can't find a cause. I wish I knew how to advise you although I do think your vet seems thorough & on the ball. I think waiting til Monday would be wise - let her settle after the bladder flush as its still early days. Sending well wishes for Hazel

Hi welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about Hazels problem, I've no experience of this, but I agree to wait till Monday if she's ok otherwise, and see how she is then. Let us know how she's gets on :)
