Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cuddles has a bald "stripe" advice please. (pictures)

Hi all.

Our 1 year old mini-lop boy, Cuddles has developed a bald stripe along his left side!
He's a black bunny and so it is very noticeable.

I can see his skin when I move his fur; I've had a good look and it looks clean - I was worried about flystrike but I cannot see any sign of maggots or infection, just healthy clean skin! the "new" fur growing is white underneath.

He seems happy in himself; he's eating, binking and doing what rabbits generally do (in his case just flopping and enjoying the sun!).
He's a very calm and laid back bunny and loves being stroked and cuddled (hence his name) and doesn't seem to be in any distress.

He's bonded to his soul-mate wife-bun Clover.
They live outside perfectly fine; I've never seen any fights between them and they have plenty of space to spend some bunny "me" time.

Is he just moulting?

Here's some photos (he also has a smaller patch on his right side - last photo):

As he's in moult if he rubbed against a hutch door-frame or something that could have removed a lot of 'dead' fur before the new fur growth appeared. Have a check around their accommodation, you may find a bundle of fluff somewhere x

Actually you're probably right, Jack's-Jane!

I've just performed the weekly "deep-clean" of their hutches and runs. Cuddles' fur is everywhere, especially along the back of the run where he likes to flop with his head on the ladder!!

I guess this must be the answer!

Many thanks
