  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Chloe - Arthritis/ Tramadol dose?

She's not eating pellets but eating veg/hay. Lots of droppings overnight so will see what today brings, hopefully her appetite will improve

Sorry I've no experience of using Tramadol with rabbits. It sounds sensible to start with a smaller dose and then build up if you need to. Sending her lots of vibes. I hope her appetite picks up today.

She hasn't actually taken any Tramadol today. It's been hard enough getting her to take the others. She HATES Zantac.

Only the past week (loxicom), to be honest she doesn't look to be in pain considering she races around so I'm not too concerned about the Tramadol at this stage however I will try her with it again tomorrow.

Have you tried mixing things in with a natural baby food? (Obviously meat free).
Zantac has a horrid taste - I've not met one animal that enjoys it.

I agree with you, if she doesn't look in pain, I would really consider whether pain relief is making a difference. And if so, what drug, and what dose, to give her :)

I put arthritic buns on Metacam, but to be honest (as I've mentioned before) there's been times when I've not notice it make any difference. Except sometimes it's put them off their food!
