  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
Hello,
I was just wondering if someone could help me. Last night when I got home from work my bunny was just sat in the corner and not eating.. Took him to the vets straight away who treated bunny for Gi.. However Bunny is eating absolutley fine now and passing poo. My worry is.. He only eats the leafy greens if they are put directly in front of him refusing to move from the corner. I've watched him all day today and whenever he trys to groom himself he looses his balance and goes over same if he stands on his back legs he goes all wobbly and looses balance... Google has given me results of the parasite E. Cuniculi however he has no facial tilt! I have no idea what to do.. He's gets so stressed out in the car and only want to go to the vets if necessary.
Thanks

Hello

It sounds as though your Rabbit does have some sort of neurological problem, possibly EC or maybe a middle ear infection. Head tilt does not always occur. Unfortunately it is essential that your Rabbit is seen by a Vet again ASAP as additional treatment is needed.

I hope that you can get your Rabbit seen by a Vet again very soon, preferably this evening, and that he will soon be feeling much better x

Can you call the practice & see if you can speak to the same vet you saw. I imagine they will need to see bun with a new symptom but they might be happy to start treatment & leave him a few days to stabilise. I do appreciate your concerns, travel is unsettling for many bunnies & even more so if he does have EC or ear infection which affect balance. The flip side is both of these do require treatment asap - personally I'd say more so if EC as panacur stops the spores taking hold & causing more damage

Does he have uppy or lop ears. Its not a definite guide but uppy earred buns are much less likely to have ear infections than lops

Others have given you good information. I have had success with balance and head tilt treatment, though your bunny may get worse for a short time after treatment begins until meds do their thing.
