  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

bunny just died

Hi hon, I'm very sorry for your loss. You did all the right things though, took her to the vet, tempted her to eat what ever she would. I lost a foster bunny what was probably something quite similar on monday and I've looked after scores of bunnies over the last few years. One of our other rescuers lost a bunny a few months ago to stasis and she has 15 of her own rabbits & many other fosters. Sometimes, experience rabbit owner or not you just cannot pull them through. You obviously loved her very much and did everything that you could.

im so sorry the baby food didnt help :cry::cry:

you did everything you could for her, just sounds like she ran out of fight :cry::cry:

I am so sorry she never pulled through.

You have done all you could for her and it would be very unlikely to be the baby food as there are others on here who use it to try to tempt bunnies when other methods don't work.

Please don't blame yourself, you did everything possible to try to help her.

Thinking of you.

aah your all so lovely on here, spent a day at my desk in floods of tears, the bunny was my mums who i lost to cancer two years ago last month so she and her other hutch mate were a link i suppose to my mum. good nights sleep now to get rid of my popeye eyes thanks again x

As long as it is non-meat baby food, it can't kill a bun. The idea of baby food as well as some blackberry or raspberry, smash it via juicer has been used by other members, including myself for many rabbits.

The way a rabbit works, is that they stop eating, whenever they are in pain, so their body acts upon whatever the cause is, as such, not eating, i.e., becomes a GI stasis, is only a secondary cause of from the original cause.

So while you treated the not eating problem, your vet has to be a rabbit specialist to find out the original cause.

Something underlying is causing your bun to get sick in the 1st place, that something is the cause of death. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Get yourself a rehome bun in your area to refill the energy in your home, many rabbits are waiting for months in a small living area inside a rescue center, waiting for a good home.

here's a list of rescue center in UK

http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/centres.asp

or go to the Rabbit In NEED section and see who's available

Or post in the rabbit in need section, many members w/ rescue centers will response to you

If you can't find a rescue center in your area, some members here wiil do a bunny run and deliver to your place.
