Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blackened broken bone + amputation in old rabbits. UD/ checking how it's healing

Hey guys, thankyou for all your support!

Posting for the first time as I'm finally in a state where my hands aren't shaking!
It has been a crazy few days and the absolute relief I feel today knowing she's still whole is overwhelming.
i actually can't believe that it looks like she is keeping her leg. We find out for sure in a week so fingers crossed.

I really didn't think this was even a possible outcome, I can't believe the people at All Creatures. I have no words for how amazing they are!

Can't believe I'm saying this as a Jew, but I got my christmas miracle! <3 :3

Here she is in my arms having a nap once we got home xxxxxxxxxx

Thankyou for all the vibes xxxxxxxx

Simba is in at a new vets. They're checking how well it's healed. If it's healing it'll be recast, however if it's not then they might still be looking at amputation.

Oh no  Will they run bloods before operating ?

Good idea, I'll ask my sister.

The bone is very low and poking through the hock. They think as she's still using it, moving it, weight bearing on it, even in the cast the bone is just pushing through the skin and not giving it time to heal. They don't conceivably see a way to stop her from using it for long enough, and then if it does heal it might come through afterwards. :?

I also think the issue of infection getting into the bone needs to be considered. I really hope she can pull through xx

So sorry to see this latest update :( if you do have to go for amputation, at least you have her leg a chance. Maybe try to take to take some comfort from that?

My sister is leaving it two more weeks, changing the dressing more often and feeding Simba up as she'd lost 100g. We have fingers crossed and at least she knows she tried everything first.
