Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Beware- My rabbit developed Chronic myxomatosis after new vaccine Nobi-vac Myxo - RHD

rabbit

hi

I lost my rabbit just under a month ago due to myximatosis & I was just wondering how soon I could get anyother rabbit?
She was a continental giant & only 8 months old. No one told us she could have the vaccination at an early age which was rather annoying & upsetting
Also does it stay in the area where my rabbit was? Or will it be safe

I'm not sure on how long it stays contagious but I know it can be passed on by the secretions, so I'd definately bleach anything the bunny had contact with (hutch etc). To be on the safe side, why don't you go to a rescue that vaccinates their rabbits against myxo and vhd- then you know that they will already be safely vaccinated when you bring them home, and you'll only have to worry about subsequent vaccines, not the initial ones. You could adopt an already neutered pair, so you won't have to worry about the neutering or bonding either :)

Can I ask, had he previously been vaccinated with the single myxi jab?

No, they have never been vacinated before with anything.

He's still really ill. It's been 8 weeks now. He looks worse because his eyes, lips, ears and genitals are swollen and now have scabs on them too.

I really hope his scabs start to fall off soon so he can breath and eat easier.
