  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baby with dirty bottom

Floppylop

Young Bun
I have a litter of 4 Lionlops, e seem okay and all are lively and eating, but one keeps getting a large glob of wet droppings stuck to his bottom and tail, I remove and clean daily and am trying probiotics and a gut supplement (syringed) the bunny is eating well and originally I thought the problem was due to them grabbing mums greens, I have now stopped feeding all greens , but am struggling to clean the babe, he had a water botto wash yesterday, but need to sort out the problem and may resort to baby wipes to clean him without wetting...someone suggested Cocci, but at the moment the bunny shows no symptoms related...ay ideas on problem also any tips on cleaning would be appreciated

I’d get a fecal test done pdq as the problem could well be coccidiosis, just not a heavy enough load (yet) to make the Kit really ill. As you probably know coccidiosis is highly contagious with a high mortality rate. So you need to act fast if there is any hint of a GI tract problem. How old are the Kits ? What pellet feed do you give ? Is the kit with the problem likely to carry the spotted gene ?

As for cleaning, I would just use warm water. You will need to house the family indoors as daily washing will lead to hypothermia if the kit is outdoors. Using baby wipes can cause skin irritation.
