  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice Needed - Two rabbits died in 48 hours

Oh Michelle I'm so sorry you must be devastated. I can't add to what's already been said other than to add my sorry and vibes for Mavis. I how you can manage to get a PM done and that it will give you answers.

 I'm so very sorry. I lost 2 girls, half of my quad within 10 days of each other, and the following year I lost the other 2 boys on the same day. All in Autumn when the weather was changing almost violently from one day to the next, I didn't have PMs done because I was too heartbroken to have any more rabbits outside. One suggestion that was made to me is that the weather changing and the temperature going up and down could have been a factor.

Sending vibes for Mavis, and hugs for you xx

Thanks for all the kind messages. Unfortunately a PM isn't a possibility now, as we had taken Dilys to the emergency vet on Thursday night after she died and left her there, ready for a PM on Friday (emergency vet and normal vet use the same building). When our usual vet said she wouldn't do the PM on Friday, she then put Dilys in the cold store. So when I found another vet yesterday who would have done a PM, she said that she couldn't due to the effects freezing would have had on the body I.e. She wouldn't know whether the changes in her body were due to being frozen or the reason she died, if that makes sense.

We are taking Dilys to be cremated this afternoon, so that we can put her ashes with Muchu and Phyllis (who died two years ago).

Thanks again for everyone's support.

'I'm sorry' seems inadequate, but I have no idea what else to say
