Time for another show us your dogs thread

Aha...that's where I go wrong...I always end up taking on the dogs with allergies or sensitive tummies...only 2 of mine can have liver:lol::lol: (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it:lol::lol:)

They're lovely :love::love:

Really? My Frankie got allergies too! With her, I use chicken but she does love it especially when it is freshly cooked!

I too love your little ones. I would love to have a little dog someday but I am afraid that either I would step on it or it get lost in my overgrown field!

I tend to get the ones with either allergies, skin probs or sensitive tummies...think there's only 1 of mine who can eat anything (and he is 16 and gummy:lol::lol:). They're fun, people do worry about standing on them all but they're pretty good about not getting under feet :p

Oh bless! It is hard work but they are lucky to have you. I know how hard it can be as Frankie is allergic to barley, wheat, lamb, potatoes, peas, and rice (I think that is it!) and she also have hayfever!

Maybe I would sum up the courage to have a small dog someday. I would like a little yorkie or a russell.

The Pom has the worst allergies, he came to me after being used for breeding ut was not socialised (locked in a back garden for 18 months:roll:), their 8 year old son was also allowed to use him as target practice with his bb gun:censored: He's allergic to wheat, eggs, dairy, salt, rawhide and too much meat (cant give chicken etc as treats). He has hayfever too.

Marley had long hair when he came to me...under the hair was sores, big infected sores. His hair was completely matted and it took us 3 hours to cut it all off. He still has sensitive skin now and hayfever. Maisy is a loon, fostered her at 8 weeks old and she bonded so quickly with Marley it wasnt fair to split them, they're very much a double act:love::love: Because she has never had the foods Max is allergic to, when she gets them they upset her tummy:oops:

Saffy has really bad colitis and the vet didnt think she would make it, she was then made a sponsor dog and has thrived. She is a really grumpy madame though:lol: Her owner decided she didnt want her anymore at 11 as she was a single mum and dog/baby combo was too hard:roll: Bob's owner died, when he was collected the lady who runs the rescue couldnt make out where he was under all the matted hair:shock: Becky bless her, isn't much of a dog yet but she will be in time:love:

Very interested in the comments about allergies as Harley is undergoing tests following his peritonitus recently and a failure to thrive at the moment.

:love: They're lovely:love: I'm no expert in allergies but do get sent a lot of the foster dogs with skin complaints and food intollerances so if you want any help I will try and do my best:D My vet isn't a believer in the allergy testing as its not conclusive and she advised the elimination diet. Its taken me a while to find out what he was allergic to but he is steady now and really thriving. Hope Harley gets sorted:D

We are trying him on different foods and so far he is best on Burns but still not normal. He isn't gaining weight properly, has almost constant diarrhea, I have been collecting poo samples to test for campylobactor but am so worried because we so nearly lost him a few weeks back with the peritonitus. Skin and coat condition is fine so we are not sure if it is an allergy, vet thinks he has problems with absorbing the nutrients from his food. Do you think his symptoms could be an allergy? He gets no treats other than his food and some hypoallergenic training treats but having tried almost all the puppy foods he is still the same.

Sorry for hijacking thread

Burns is a really good food but the people I know who feed it have trouble keeping/gaining weight with it. I would be cautious of changing too much though until the vet finds out what else is going on with him. I wouldnt add/change anything though until he has solid stools. Maybe try adding a hypoallergenic wet food or upping the burns intake for now? Does he eat all what you feed or is there food left over?

It may not be an allergy just a sensitivity/reaction to all he has been through, the poo samples will identify if there's a health problem. I use JWB junior as I find it better at maintaining weight and it suits all of mine. The other thing that might help for now (and certainly wouldnt hurt) is pro-kolin paste. It helps to solidify them and regulate the gut flora.

How long has he had diarrhea for?

He scoffs all his food and I give him weighed out portions as per the bag and a bit more. Will definately get some of the paste stuff, thanks for the link. JWB was what he came with but seems to cause really loose poops. He has been loose since we got him (3 months ago, he was an unwanted pup from someone my husband works with, 12 hour shifts and a young pup don't mix, poor lad has severe anxiety seperation still) and I found a load of antibiotics in his belongings so assume he had bouts before we had him. He has a few days of not too bad, then a degeneration in the poop until we get jets (sorry TMI!). I would have thought that if he had campylobactor or similar he would have infected my other two by now??

Thanks for your help and info. It's good to know Harley isn't the only dog with problems.

Oohh...separation anxiety can cause the runs too...maybe try adaptil by his bed and a spray adaptil or adaptil collar for when your out (you can get that from Animed too, its cheaper from them;)). The paste will definately not do any harm and may well help, its not a medicine either so you cant overdose them on it (for the first few days I would get as much down him as poss). Maybe try upping the Burns meals as well...possibly the same amount as an extra meal? I would keep him on the Burns though for now. The other thing you could do is contact Burns and ask them which food is best for weight gain...they will send you some samples;)

The poo samples wont do any harm to check. What does your vet think is the problem? I will try and have a think about other things you could try as well.

I have been thinking about the adaptil diffuser - he is worse at night when I put him to bed. He isn't on his own but has trouble settling. He now has the radio on all night to stop the midnight howling sessions we were having!(A bit if thrash metal on Kerrang is obviously soothing to him!!) Luckily I work from home so can manage his anxiety in the day. There doesn't seem to be a pattern with the bad nights and his poop but I will keep a diary in case I haven't noticed.

Vet thinks parasite (campylobactor bug poss) or a malabsorption issue in the gut. Waiting on some blood test results as well as the poop results but I only dropped those off Friday so will have to wait a while. Thanks again!!:thumb:

It sounds like everyone is doing all they can for him:D Both the pro-kolin and Adaptil are only complimentary so wont hurt or affect what your vet prescribes, I would try both while your waiting for the test results to come back. Please will you let me know how you get on with him?

Have u tried Orijen food? Google it, it is based on only what a dog needs, not packed out with cereals and meat derivatives, all fresh really high quality ingredients in a dry food. My little dog has had all kinds of probs since iv had him and this is best food he's ever been on and my other dog, who used to get bored of food really quickly has never got bored of this they love it :D

Have you tried raw feeding?
Its easier than you think and it is the healthiest way to feed a dog [IMO] :)
