  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Runny nose + vaccination

Jack's nose is STILL running (been over a month now) with no other symptoms, I heard her sneeze once a couple of weeks ago but it was a one off. She is fine in herself, no coughing, sneezing, wheezing or anything.
It's a clear discharge but it's more that her top lips are constantly wet rather than dribbling snot.

So, here's the problem. I took her to the vet who didn't want to treat her as she's not "ill", just has a runy nose, BUT the vet also doesn't want to vaccinate her while she's dribbling. Her vaccs are overdue and, even though she doesn't go outside much, I AM having them done.

What do I do? Do I make the vet put her on antibiotics (or whatever) to cure the nose before vaccinating her or do i just get the vaccs done and ignore the nose. Which is more dangerous - medicine or vaccs while ill?

Thanks guys and sorry to bother you again with the same old problem - don't want my little girl getting ill!

I don't really know what to say here, but I'd suggest getting her on antibiotics to clear the nose before getting her vaxed. If her immune system is pretty low already from being ill, then vaxing her is only going to make her worse, in my opinion.

theo has a wet nose. i think its nothing. his is the same- since we had him- damp, clear (not snuffles) not sticky- with no other symptoms

id say some bunnies just have wet noses

Maybe. She's not always had it but it's been about for over a month now. She is a nethie so maybe her squishy face has something to do with mucus not draining properly? Who knows.

Will ring the vet today methinks.

Thanks guys
