Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering

Im sure this has been asked before, but if you have a boy bun who has been de-plummed, and a girl bun who hasnt been spayed, is it safe to put them together?

As long as the male has been neutered for at least 6 weeks there is no chance of them breeding. However, you should still get your female bun spayed as unspayed females have a 80% chance of getting uterine cancer by the time they reach 5 years old.

It also will be a lot harder to introduce an unspayed female, she will be a lot more territorial and hormonal so will not make bonding very easy. You could also trigger her to have false pregnancies and they can get extremely painful infections as a result.

I am not saying that it will definitely not work, but it is always best to get the female spayed first anyway.

Like Freakles said if he's been done for more than 6weeks then it's safe, but advisable to get your girlie done. You can do this before or after bonding them, when I took one of my girls in I took her man along too and they stayed together the whole time. If you are planning on getting her spayed as they're not bonded already it's probably easier to get her done first, give her time to heal and then introduce them.

 my spayed doe was the meekest bunny ever..and took everything oscar threw at her.cept for the humping..she was soo mad at him for trying to dominate her!
She made berties life hell chasing him biting him etc..lol she is boss and he is boss a hard couple alright they still tussle from time to time now..and its her doing the bullying..and berties a french lop!! But they adore each other just 2 dominat bunnies togehter.
I had a doe who was awaiting tobe spayed and let me tell you you MUST have ehr done before bonding..we had to enter the lounge armed with a broom so she could attack that instead of our ankles as she was soo territorial and our neutered tomcat was her mate she thought..
