Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. How long do I keep her indoors after her spay please?

Hi everyone! Can I ask how long everyone has kept their buns indoors overnight after a spay (if not housebunnies). Poppy is due for her spay next week and she usually lives outside in a large hutch with a very large run and comes in every evening for a run around as well. How long do you think I should move her hutch in for? We've got a large conservatory so I could move her hutch in there, but for how many nights do you think? I've considered buying an indoor rabbit cage if I need to keep her in for quite a while. When I had Teddy neuteured the vet said to keep him in for just one night, but obviously for girly buns it's a bigger op. Any advice on what you've done would be appreciated - Thanks! :D

My rabbit, Sooty, lives in the conservatory but I kept her in a pen in the lounge for 3 nights after her spay then gave her restricted access in the conservatory for another 3 days and nights and then let her go outside on the 7th day.

The 'keeping in' is more to do with them recovering from the GA than the actual surgery. The GA makes their blood pressure drop and so they cant maintain their body temperature. If she is eating/pooping and behaving normally then she may be better off in the environment she is used to.
Its best to bed her on towels rather than hay etc for the first week. Otherwise bedding can get stuck in the spay wound. You also need to be ultra-vigilant re flies, maybe a fly-screen over her hutch/run.
If her hutch has a ramp its best to close it off for about a week to stop her over exerting herself until she has healed both inside and out.
