  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hiccups

Hello, I wondered if anyone had any advice.

Deej gets hiccups - I've noticed at least a couple of times a week. Each session only lasts about 30 seconds, and normally it's just when he's lazing around.

He's not sneezing, coughing, choking, breathing abnormally. It doesn't distress or even bother him. If I call him he'll run over for nose rubs, and they disappear. It doesn't seem to be triggered by anything in particular either.

Do you think there is a cause, or just like human hiccups it's one of those things?

I always feel sorry for him cause there he is lounging around with his little body shaking with the hiccups, but he doesn't even bat an eyelid or twitch an ear! :D

Lots of mine get hiccups. Usually after pigging down food....
As long as in all other respects he is OK dont worry about them

:D :D

Tappet seems to get the hiccups too. He seems to get them when he is resting on the sofa in the evening. Glad it doesn't seem to be something to worry about. :D
