Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

its okay, bunnies can still get red , sore hocks on hard or soft ground
Larger bunnies seem especially prone to sore hocks, so perhaps it is the extra weight they have to take through their feet that causes pressure sores :?: Our Giant Boadicea, gets sore hocks, so each day I smear a little bit of Vaseline on her hocks as a preventative :)
Hope this helps, and dont worry it is nothing you are doing wrong, just one of those things.
Best wishes :)

Buster (rex) get sore hocks too, it doesn't mean you're not looking after them properly there is just not enough fur on their pads. He's better in his hutch, when he was in the house the carpets use to make them bleed.

my conti had them, vet said because of the sheer weight of these rabbits they are very prone to them.

My french lop Mabel always gets sore hocks, I put some cream from gorgeous guineas on them, can't think what its called at the moment, but it keeps the skin soft and stops it cracking so much. As long as you keep them clean and free from infection, you can manage them.

Three of my buns have developed Sore Hocks as well :?

They have the furriest feet I've ever seen as well
