Fur Cutting/Shaving

Hello everyone! :D

I am slightly worried about flystrike and Molly at the moment. She tends to have rather long thick fur and has abit of mess in it. Do you think I should take her to the vets to have some cut down or shaved off around her rear end? I am very worried about this leading to the dreaded fly strike!

Many Thanks :) x

Can you trim it yourself with some round ended scissors. I do mine, well not MINE my fluffy Bunsters!!

Have you tried changing her diet if she is getting mucky? Is she overweight? And has the vet looked at her teeth? Not grooming well can be an indication of a stiff back too, sometimes pain relief will let them groom more comfortably.

It is better to get to the bottom of the problem rather than just to clip her fur, although by all means do that as well. I have a toothless rabbit who has to have her fluff clipped as she can't groom herself adequetely, and another with a digestive upset who needs it too. Using safety scissors designed for use around dogs eyes works well I find.

Thats a great help thanks.

Sometimes she struggles when i hold her to look at her underneath as she doesnt like it, shes a rather large bunny.

I did try lastnight with some scissors but I was very worried of cutting something I wasn't ment to

I havent had the vet look at her teeth no, I think I should do that when I go down. At one point she was very messy so I have her on Hay which has helped and its lost some weight too as she did have alot of excess fur around her neck as she was a breeding rabbit. I do feel very bad as she seems boney. My vet did say I couldnt starve her on just hay.
