2 of her nails have fallen off!

Peppermint

New Kit
Hi,

Peppermint is circa 3.5 yrs old (not sure as she's a rescue bunny).

We have found 2 large sections of her nails on the carpet over the last week & a half (she's a house bunny).

She seems fine in herself.

Only things happened recently are, she had VHD jab start of Feb; she also had nails clipped, teeth checked etc at the same time.

As Benny (our other house bunny) was a little overweight, we have cut out 99% of veggies and reduced their portion of excel pellets. They still have excel pellets, plus hay & water 24/7.

Is the nail loss something I should worry about? Any idea on the causes?

Thanks

Are her nails a little long? could she have jumped and snapped them? or got them caught on the carpet? I had a bun who got his nail caught on the carpet once. Was their any blood? if not then the nails more than likely snapped and were not ripped out.
I'm not sure if having the jab causes problems. I hope someone else will beable to advise you

Hi,

The nails were cut by the vet 2-3 weeks ago, so they're not long.

Just seems strange that we haven't seen any before now, as she's been in the house (& on the carpets) for over 2 years now.

Sometimes the nail can be accidentally broken right near the base (where it comes out of the toe) during clipping. The nail then falls off when the broken bit grows out of the toe. It should regrow just fine. With regard to your Buns diet you might be better cutting out the pellets entirely and feeding hay and leafy green veggies. Veggies wont make a bun fat (except too many carrots) but the pellets can. If your Bun is a good hay eater she will be fine on a hay/veggie only diet with maybe just one or two pellets as hand fed 'treats'. Jane and Buns xx

We think it may be both her rear dew[?] claws.

She's walking normally and seems her usual self. She's due to the vets again imminently for her Myxi jab - so will get a second opinion.

Thanks all
