Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Letting Out

Young Bun
This might seem like an odd quesion but how do you stop a bunny from pooping? I just got my new half lop and whenever I let him out of his cage to run around he poops like every 30 seconds. It's so annoying to follow him with a pooper scooper. I put in a pooty corner but he just tore it apart, threw the hay all over and rip the mat into pieces and picked another corner. :? I think he likes to destroy things. Any advice on how to get it so I can let him out? Thanks!

You need to give him a litter tray in the corner he wee's in. A plastic cat litter tray or bunny litter tray is best. You can put newspaper and hay in this or even better paper (not clay) based cat litter. Any poops that he does outside the tray put into the tray.

If he tries throwing it around add a half brick or similar in the bottom so it's too heavy.

aw he's just marking his territory thats all

I would say the same as Tamsin just keep putting the poops into the litter tray hopefully he will get the message :D

Is he a young bun? has he neen neutered?

He's a young bunny, they didn't know exactly how old he is. He's not neutered but he will be when I get home in between semesters. But I don't know how old he is so I don't know when he can be neutered. How old do they have to be?
