Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tallulah has been rushed to the emergency vets

So, after weeks of working at home, tonight I'm away. Both bunnies were fine when I saw them around tea time, got to hotel around 10.30 tonight and there was a frantic message from my eldest daughter (22). Tallulah had collapsed about 30 mins previously and her legs wouldn't support her. She's called the emergency vet and my ex OH is on his way to pick them up.

The vet said she was quite poorly and mentioned EC or brain tumour but has given her oxygen to regulate her breathing, her temperature was also slightly up.

She was going to be kept there overnight but has now been referred to the hospital near Leighton Buzzard, so she'll be going asap.

My youngest daughter (17) is distraught as the bunnies are hers and she adores them, dreading the call overnight 😥

Please think of them all , thank you

Thanks, not great news, the hospital can't take her, the vet is saying nearest specialist is in Swindon, unfortunately not an option

Rosemary, I am so sorry to hear this :( It's awful for these things to happen, but whilst you're away is even worse.

Also you're update about the hospital .. can your ex help out in any way? x

Mega vibes for Talulah x

Oh no :( these things seem to happen at the worst times. I hope the specialists can help at least over the phone if they can't take her. Sending lots and lots of vibes for Tallulah xxx

Thanks again everyone, I had misunderstood what the vet was saying, difficult on a loudspeaker, he was saying that the nearest specialist available tonight was in Swindon and he wanted permission to consult them, Tallulah will be staying in their clinic tonight with staff watching her. I'very also had to give him my mobile number in case they have to PTS, doesn't bear thinking about

glad it was a misunderstanding and she is able to stay at the clinic to be monitored by the staff.

waiting on those phone calls is just horrendous. i hope she remains stable overnight x

That sounds more bearable, though only just. I guess you won't be sleeping much tonight. What a terrible worry for you all.

More vibes for your little girl x

I am so sorry to hear how poorly Tallulah is. I hope that the next update from the Vets will not be a bad as you fear. Although the presenting symptoms could be EC I'd ask the Vet if there is even the slightest chance of it being 'Floppy Rabbit Syndrome'. This acute metabolic condition can result in total TEMPORARY Paralysis. Rabbits can go from only being able to twitch their nose to full recovery.

Thanks everyone, apologies for the delay in responding but I'm working away from home with limited wi fi , just what I need today

So, this morning ex OH went to the emergency vet to collect Tallulah and take her to our vets, I didn't know last night that this would happen so again he's gone the extra for us

I'very spoken to our vet who is competent but not a specialist, she is continuing to treat as last night with anti biotics and feeding but she is concerned about her left eye, it's bulging slightly which could be an indication of abcess or tumour . She's going to take some images and get back to me :-(

I know how difficult the waiting part is so I really understand how you're feeling.

Thinking of you and topping up the vibes

I'm so sorry I've only just seen this.

Sending billions of vibes. It's lovely that your ex is willing to help x
