Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

RHD2 Vaccine - Hertfordshire

Hello All

My vet, Medivet in Watford, has just got this vaccine in, and is charging £55 for it (twice yearly). From what I can see on other threads this is rather expensive! Has anyone in Hertfordshire (Watford or surrounding area preferable) found a vet who is stocking this and, if so, what is the cost? Thank you.

Wow - that is a lot. I used to work there in my early years of vet nursing!!

You could maybe try contacting Nine Lives Redbourn - 01582 793636 - not sure if they're within travelling distance

I can imagine they'd have it in and it'd be a reasonable price. They are brilliant there. They're exotic specialists but are often 50% cheaper than Medivet.

It's Medivet.................I rest my case

Here's a map of surgeries that have the vaccine in:

I'm really surprised at that, as the Medivets in London are charging less than my 'normal' vet for neuters and vaccinations.

Good luck with finding an alternative

I had mine done at medivet watford last week & im sure wasn't that much, can't find my receipt but I'm sure mine came to about £56 and I paid £11 (ish) for something else also.

I thought it was only once a year, shows how much I know. My bun hadnt been vaccinated for over a year due to being poorly, felt almost pointless as he's indoors (obviously I realise it isn't).

I think it's a moot point whether you vaccinate once or twice in a year. It's supposed to be twice yearly in high risk areas - difficult to know where they are until too late, I suspect.

Also the data sheet isn't clear about the 'booster' after 6 months as it just says that the duration of the vaccine is 12 months .. :?

One of the receptionists rang and told my husband it was £55.00, which I thought was rather steep!

it does seem alot. our vets charged £21 if a nurse gave it, or £32 if the vet did it. and we have been advised once a year for it
